BJP to agitate for official celebration of September 17

The BJP has decided to use the Hyderabad State’s Liberation Day to intensify its fight against the TRS government in the state.

HYDERABAD: The BJP, which has been a vociferous advocate of holding the erstwhile Hyderabad State’s Liberation Day on September 17 as an official ceremony by the state government, has decided to use the same issue to intensify its fight against the TRS government in the state.

The saffron party, which had organised massive protests to exert pressure on the then governments in the erstwhile united state over this issue, has resolved to undertake a massive campaign in every district by playing the audio clippings of the speeches given by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during the Telangana movement in which he said that TRS would organise the Hyderabad Liberation Day as a state function, after the formation of the new state.

The BJP leadership is of the view that like the previous governments in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, even the present TRS regime in the state is against organising Hyderabad Liberation Day as a state function as it would invite the wrath of Muslims. Hence, the party, whose aim is to attract Hindu voters to its side, wants to use the issue of Liberation Day as a tool to achieve its goal, by portraying the ruling TRS as a party, “which is adopting Muslim-appeasing politics.”

As part of this strategy, the party on Monday directed its cadres in all districts to organise massive protests in each district demanding that KCR keeps his promise of organising Hyderabad Liberation Day as a state function for the next 45 days. “During the Telangana movement, KCR used to attack the previous governments in united AP, saying that Telangana people were not able to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day,” BJP state chief K Laxman recalled, while addressing mediapersons here.

Leaders to visit torture victims
A delegation of BJP leaders led by party state unit chief K Laxman will visit the victims of alleged police torture, who are lodged in Karimnagar district jail on Tuesday. “Police using third degree on youngsters belonging to Nerella and Jillela villages in Sircilla segment for protesting against illegal sand mining activities is an unpardonable act. The victims were brutally beaten by police so that their kidneys and other body parts severely damaged. The way KCR and his son KTR have so far not shown any interest to visit the victims, displays their adamant attitude towards Dalits and BCs,” he criticised.
