NIZAMABAD :The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry is planning to set up a regional office of Spices Board in order to address turmeric-related issues instead of setting up a separate Turmeric Board.
This was disclosed by BJP national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao to BJP district leaders in here on Sunday. For a long time turmeric farmers have been demanding the Centre to establish a separate board for turmeric crop on the lines of Coconut and Tobacco Boards. All political parties are supporting the farmers’ demand.

On this, TRS MP K Kavitha submitted memorandums to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union ministers, chief ministers and MPs supported the demand. She raised the issue in the Parliament and recently she also met the PM with a delegation of the district MLAs and MLCs. BJP district committee leaders and farmer MLA Y Laxminarayana also represented the issue to the government through the party’s national committee. In spite of all these efforts the government is not ready to fulfil the demand. After all these developments, the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry is thinking of setting up a regional office of Spices Board in Nizamabad district to address turmeric related issues.
