All-party delegation seeks action against Sircilla SP

All-party delegation requested DGP Anurag Sharma to ensure that cases are registered under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the Rajanna-Sircilla district SP and other police officials

HYDERABAD: All-party delegation requested DGP Anurag Sharma to ensure that cases are registered under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the Rajanna-Sircilla district SP and other police officials, responsible for atrocities against Dalits belonging to Nerella and Jillela villages. The delegation also asked the DGP to institute an independent enquiry and provide compensation to the victims. The delegation, comprising TPCC working president Bhatti Vikramarka, TDP TS unit working president A Revanth Reddy, CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and others, called on the DGP here on Friday.

“District SP Vishwajit Kampati and his staff subjected the youngsters to severe third degree torture by beating indiscriminately, pouring hot water on their private parts, besides giving electric shocks for four days. The victims suffered serve injuries,” the leaders stated in their complaint, submitted to the DGP.
In their complaint, the all-party leaders recalled that on July 2, in Nerella, a sand-laden lorry ran over B Bhudaiah, a girijan, leading to his death. The lorry belonged to a sand contractor, notorious for overloading the trucks with sand and moving the lorries with high speed not caring about the safety of the villagers.

The next day, on July 3, hundreds of locals gathered at the accident site, stopped three sand carrying trucks and set them on fire. Having failed to identify the culprits and succumbing to the pressure from the sand contractor and the local MLA, IT minister KT Rama Rao, the police picked eight innocent persons (five are SCs and three are OBCs) from their houses.
