Rs 750 crore to be released for modernisation in Telangana

Irrigation minister T Harish Rao announced that they would release another Rs 750 crore for modernisation of Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP).

HYDERABAD: Irrigation minister T Harish Rao announced that they would release another Rs 750 crore for modernisation of Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP). “All works relating to modernisation of SRSP will be considered as emergency works,” Harish Rao declared on Thursday.

At a review, Harish Rao announced that he would tour SRSP canals to inspect the works. The modernisation works on SRSP should commence immediately, he said.Though, the designed carrying capacity of SRSP canals was 8,000 cusecs, not more than 6,000 cusecs flowed in SRSP canals all these years due to the negligence of the combined AP government, he claimed.

Thus, the state accorded top priority for the SRSP modernisation, he added. The modernisation works would help the department to supply irrigation water to Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad and Dornakal Assembly segments under SRSP.

“We have set a target of providing water to complete ayacut of 9.68 lakh under SRSP this year,” Harish Rao said. Meanwhile, Harish Rao directed officials to complete the Udaya Samudram project in Nalgonda district by December end.
