Telangana CM declares candidates for seven MLC seats, prefers defectors

For three seats under MLAs quota, KCR nominates two former TDP leaders

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister and ruling TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday announced the names of his party candidates for the MLC elections.

For the three seats under MLAs quota for which a notification was issued earlier, Vullolla Gangadhar Goud, Alimineti Krishna Reddy and Mynampalli Hanumanth Rao have been nominated.

While Krishna Reddy is the brother of late A Madhava Reddy, slain TDP leader who worked as home minister in the then N Chandrababu Naidu government in the erstwhile united state, and Hanumanth Rao were with TDP. Hanumanth Rao was elected as MLA from Medak in 2009, before joining the TRS in 2014.

The three MLC candidates under the MLAs quota will file their nominations on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister decided to recommend the names of D Rajeshwar Rao and former MLC Farooq Husain, who had crossed over to the TRS from the Congress Party, for the two seats to be filled under the Governor’s quota, soon.

The party already declared the candidature of Katepalli Janardhan Reddy for the MLC election under Teachers quota for which election process is underway. The TRS already supported the candidature of AIMIM party candidate Syed Amin-ul-Asad Jafri. With this, for the ensuing MLC elections to seven seats, two were given to Muslims, two to Reddy community, one each for Christians, Velamas and BCs.

“Though the name of CM’s political secretary Subhash Reddy was earlier considered for one MLC seat, due to sociological equations he could not be accommodated. The CM has decided to consider his name for the next MLC elections,” TRS sources stated.

Home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao and TRSLP secretary Madati Ramesh Reddy will act as the coordinators for the MLC polls, TRS leadership stated here.
