Two Maoists from Telangana arrested in Jharkhand
HYDERABAD: The Ranchi police on Thursday arrested two Maoists from Telangana and seized Rs 25 lakh cash and half-a-kilogram of gold worth Rs 13 lakh, besides Maoist literature from their possession.
The arrested are CPI Maoist’s Central Committee member and Jharkhand commander Sudhakar’s brother B Narayana and Maoist Satyanarayana Reddy.
Narayana is a resident of Sarangapur in Nirmal district, and Satyanarayana Reddy from Janmabhoomi of Mancherial district.
The duo was held by the Ranchi police near Chattia’s Patel Chowk on Thursday when they were coming out of Gumla forest. They were heading to catch a train from Ranchi railway station.
“Seeing the police team near Patel Chowk, Narayana and Satyanarayana tried to walk away. On suspicion, the duo was intercepted. On questioning, they revealed their names,” said SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) Kuldeep Dwivedi.
Dwivedi said Narayana was carrying a bag on his shoulder, which contained Rs 5 lakh cash, some clothes and Maoist literature. He also had Rs 4,600 cash in his pockets.
Satyanarayana was carrying Rs 20 lakh in a bag and a piece of gold besides Rs 10,500 cash in his wallet.
On questioning, Narayana told the police that his brother Sudhakar had called him to the forests and handed him over the money for family expenses. The SSP said “For many days, information has been coming that Maoists commanders are extorting huge amounts money in the form of levy from different industrialists and contractors engaged in mining work and also some businessmen. Sudhakar is also suspected to have invested huge amounts of money in various businesses through Narayana and Satyanarayana.”
“Narayana has revealed that the money earned by his brother Sudhakar, is being invested in purchasing lands and gold and also in growing beedi leaves. Whereever Sudhar moved, Narayana used to make contacts and take care of his investments. Several times earlier, Narayana had come to forests to meet his brother ,” said the office.
“Sudhakar has also been extorting money from the mining, road construction and other businessmen located in the forest areas of Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Jharkhand states,” the officer added.
