MANTHANI: On a day when Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao took up the Dalit attacks issue to corner the BJP, the TPCC hit back at the TRS government in the state for being on top of the list of states in the country in mistreating Dalits.

Addressing a massive meeting as part of the party’s Praja Chaitanya Yatra here on Tuesday, TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy supported the agitation of Dalits against the attempts to change provisions of SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. Lashing out at the TRS government, Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana was among the states where Dalits and Girijans were not safe. “Like all communities, Dalits too had a lot of hopes and aspirations from the formation of Telangana. They too believed the promises made by Rao and expected to get a three-acre land, a two-bedroom house and a job to each of their families. But what they got was only disappointment and insult,” he said.

Listing out some instances,  the TPCC chief said a Dalit youth, Madhukar, was murdered in Manthani. Even after one year, his second post-mortem report has not come out and the culprits are still roaming free. In Nerella,  Dalits and BCs were subjected to third-degree torture for raising their voice against the sand mafia.

When former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar, a Dalit and daughter of Babu Jagjivan Ram, came to Sircilla and met the victims, Rao made derogatory comments against her. In Manakondur, two Dalit youths attempted suicide, said Uttam.
