Congress shedding crocodile tears for farmers: Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao

The TRS scion enumerates its govt’s schemes for agri community.

MAHABUBNAGAR: Municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday charged the Congress with misleading farmers and said the TPCC leaders, through their Praja Chaitanya Yatra, are making futile efforts to win over farmers.

Speaking after laying foundation for integrated collectorate complex here on Wednesday, Rama Rao said though the state government was doing everything under the sky to help farmers, Congress was trying to create an impression that the government was not doing much to help them. “We waived `17,000 crore crop loan. We are providing `4,000 per acre financial assistance to farmers from the upcoming kharif season. We are providing free power round-the-clock, water, seeds and fertilizers to farmers. They are very happy with the government. But the opposition parties are trying to defame the government by making false claims,” he alleged.

The Congress did nothing for farmers and now they are trying to become their well wishers, he alleged.
“They should stop shedding crocodile tears as the farmers are not going to believe them anymore,” he said.
According to him, no other government in the country was working for the welfare of farmers the way they were doing. “Our chief minister is taking steps to make agriculture profitable. He is working for the development of all sections of the society,” he claimed.

He said upgrading tribal hamlets to gram panchayat was a revolutionary step by the chief minister as it would benefit the tribals to a large extent. Deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari stated that his government was working for the upliftment of the downtrodden. The state government was implementing various schemes and programmes for the welfare of the poor .Tourism minister Azmeera Chandulal, Mahabubabad MP Seetharam Naik Mahabubabad MLA Shankar Naik and others were present.

KTR recalls statehood movement days

Rama Rao, during his address, made a mention of Manukota’s (Mahabubabad) significance in the separate Telangana statehood movement. “This is the land which has driven away YSRC president YS Jaganmohan Reddy and Chiranjeevi (actor-turned-politician who floated Praja Rajyam Party and later merged it with the Congress). The youth of this place had a significant role to play in the movement,’’ he said.
