TRS MLAs of Telangana's Chennur 'abuses' Dalit farmer

An audio recording reportedly of Chennur MLA Odelu went viral on social media on Sunday in which he was heard using abusive language against a Dalit farmer Durgam Rajaiah.

MANCHERIAL/NIZAMABAD: Two MLAs belonging to the ruling party, Nallala Odelu (Chennur) and Bajireddy Govardhan (Nizamabad Rural) along with party MLC R Bhupati Reddy, once again hit the headlines on Monday for ‘wrong’ reasons.

An audio recording reportedly of Chennur MLA Odelu went viral on social media on Sunday in which he was heard using abusive language against a Dalit farmer Durgam Rajaiah.  The MLA allegedly grabbed three acres of land belonging to Rajaiah in Mandamarri mandal of Mancherial district.  When Rajaiah questioned him about it, Odelu began abusing him.  After repeated pleas, the legislator handed over half of the land to Rajaiah. However, the remaining land is still with the MLA’s follower, who is now exerting pressure on the farmer to vacate it.

“The MLA assured me that he would provide me alternative land at some other place. But, did nothing.  Being a Dalit he is harassing a Dalit farmer. We depend on land for livelihood, if that is encroached, what can we do?” he asked.  Further, it is learnt that of the ten buffaloes the farmer had owned earlier, five died due to electric shock.

Rajaiah suspected that there could be a conspiracy by the MLA’s followers  behind the sudden death of his cattle.Recently, a businessman’s family had tried to commit suicide by sitting on railway tracks in Mancherial town, alleging that Odelu’s son had cheated them by not paying the money, which he owed to them. They were rescued by local police.

With regard to Govardhan, the corruption charges allegations levelled against him by  his own  party MLC R Bhupati Reddy, who was earlier slapped by Govardhan, drew the ire of the revenue department staff.
Bhupathi Reddy had alleged that the MLA’s agents had collected crores of rupees from each mandal to correct the disputed land records.  Refuting the charges, the revenue employees, on Monday made the land records public, and urged the politicians not drag them into the “ongoing fight” between them for their “own political gains.”
