HYDERABAD: A destitute woman was found murdered on the roadside at Gudenmet area in Balanagar. She is suspected to have been raped by unidentified persons while sleeping on the roadside. Police recovered her body on Tuesday with her face plastered, hands tied and clothes dishevelled. The woman’s mother was found sleeping about 15 feet away from her body, at Gudenmet bus stop near IDPL X roads. Police suspect crime could have happened between 1.30-2 am on Tuesday.

The victim’s mother, Durgamma confirmed to police that the body was of her daughter Lakhsmamma. The duo, who begged for a living, migrated to the city from Andol village of Medak about 15 years ago. “Durgamma claimed to have seen a man trying to do something to her sleeping daughter. When she tried to resist him, the man threatened to kill her with a boulder and asked her to go back to the sleep,” said Balanagar inspector B Kishan Kumar. “Lakshmamma had consumed toddy on Monday night and may have been in deep sleep,” he added. The inspector said the suspect had covered her mouth with a sealing tape to ensure she does not shout. “In hurry, he also plastered her nose. She is suspected to have died of asphyxiation,” he said. He said that the body has been sent for the autopsy at the Gandhi Hospital mortuary.
