No shortage of teachers in Telangana, says Tribal Welfare department

Ashram schools in the State have a strength of 93,188 students and the government primary schools under the TW department cater to 22,534 students.

HYDERABAD: Reacting to the allegation of teachers crunch in Ashram schools, the Tribal Welfare department has clarified that it has already accorded permission to recruit 1,931 contractual teachers in its 319 Ashram schools and 1,432 government primary schools, under the department.

Further, it has also enhanced the remuneration of Casual Relief Teachers (CRTs) by 50 per cent - for teachers or school assistants (from Rs 14,860 to Rs 22,290) and for secondary grade teachers (from `10,900 to `16,350). According to the TW commissioner’s office, guidelines for engaging CRT had been given to officials - project officers in ITDA and district collectors in Non ITDAs - for the recruitment of 1,931 CRTs as per requirement in Ashram and primary schools.

“We have also accorded permission to engage 200 academic instructors. Hence, in total 2,131 teachers have already been permitted as per the teacher pupil ratio,” Dr Christina Z Chongthu, commissioner, Tribal Welfare, said.

The official added that this arrangement was made immediately to ensure that students and teachers in the TW institutions are not put through any inconvenience particularly since teacher transfer process was underway.

Ashram schools in the State have a strength of 93,188 students and the government primary schools under the TW department cater to 22,534 students. Against the sanctioned teacher posts of 5,710, at present 4,618 are working in these schools while 1,092 posts are lying vacant. There is also an additional requirement of 1,191 teachers, for which the department has written to the government seeking sanction for the same.
