Regional parties must come together: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi

HYDERABAD: Slamming the Congress and BJP for “using Muslims for political gain”, AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday dismissed their chances in the next general elections and predicted a bright future for regional parties in the coming days.

“The two parties have disappointed India. While Congress has used Muslims for votes, BJP has spread hatred regarding Muslims. The two parties do not want the quality of lives of Muslims to improve,” Owaisi said while addressing an event in Gadwal on Monday.

Citing the recent controversy regarding AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s alleged “Congress is a Muslim Party” statement, Owaisi said, “Since news reports have come out, Congress has rejected Gandhi’s claim. On the other hand, PM Modi in a speech derided Congress for being a Muslim party. Is this how Muslims are treated in India? Both of the parties are going to lose in the ensuing Assembly elections. There are many great personalities other than Modi or Rahul. It is time that regional parties come together and dethrone the two parties,” he attacked. The Hyderabad MP also slammed Congress’ statements that voting for TRS or AIMIM is equal to voting for BJP.

“I didn’t go to Gujarat to contest elections. Similarly, I didn’t contest from any seat in Karnataka. How did Congress lose there if we are indeed dividing votes as they claim?” Owaisi asked, while taking a jibe at the state Congress for being a party of “Reddys”. “From now on, India will be run by the weaker section,” he said. He slammed the PM for concentrating on issues like Triple Talaq while other pressing issues exist.
