HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will launch a massive plantation programme in Gajwel town on August 1 during which 1,00,116 saplings will be planted as part of Haritha Haaram programme.

“Saplings will be planted on either side of roads and on the premises of houses, public and private institutions simultaneously on the same day.  The plantation launching programme should be taken up on a large scale with people’s participation and the massive campaign should be taken up to make it a grand success,” the CM instructed the officials.

Why Haritha Haaram?

“India is lagging behind in the ratio of human beings and plants. The ratio of this in Canada high. In Canada, on an average, there are 8,953 trees for every person. In Russia it is 4,465 trees per person, in USA 716 trees per person, in China 102 trees per person and whereas in India it is just 28 trees per person.  This is leading to ecological imbalances and an increase in temperatures.  This is the reason why we have taken up Telanganaku Haritha Haram programme in a mission mode.  We are aiming at 33 per cent of greenery,” said CM K Chandrasekhar Rao.
