Government to procure thirty lakhs tonnes of paddy

HYDERABAD: The State government has decided to procure 30 lakh tonnes of paddy in 2018-19 Kharif season. Chief Secretary SK Joshi directed the civil supplies officials to prepare a proper action plan for procurement of Kharif paddy.

At a review meeting with civil supplies commissioner Akun Sabharwal and other officials at the Secretariat here on Monday, the Chief Secretary directed the officials to open sufficient purchase centres for procurement of paddy.

The Chief Secretary directed that the database of each and every farmer should be available with the civil supplies department. The required gunny bags should be made available and sufficient storage capacity should be created in the godowns,  he told  the officials.

The government procured 107.92 lakh tonnes of paddy in 2016, 2017 and 2018 Rabi from 22.18 lakh farmers. The government paid Rs 16,691 crore to farmers for paddy procurement.
