HYDERABAD: The state government has sought loans from the Asia Development Bank (ADB) for the development of Greater  Hyderabad. It has sought funding for strategic road development programme (SRDP), metro rail project, Musi riverfront development, proposed water grid in the city with Singur, Godavari and Krishna waters, and other schemes.

The request was made when ADB executive director Chhatrapati Shivaji called on state chief secretary SK Joshi at the Secretariat here on Thursday. The mayor submitted proposals to ADB in Delhi recently on the funds required for developmental works in the state capital. Consequently, the ADB executive director and other officials visited the city to discuss the funding pattern.

The ADB gave a positive response to the request, Rammohan said later. The GHMC had financial discipline and the response to its bonds released recently was indicative of the civic body’s financial strength, he claimed. “We have planned to develop water grid with Krishna, Godavari and Singur waters so that Hyderabad will not face drinking water problem even if any one of the sources fails in future. We are tapping funds from ADB for the proposed water grid,” Rammohan told Express. “The discussions with ADB officials are preliminary in nature and we are discussing with them to take loans out of the FRBM framework,” he disclosed.
