HYDERABAD: Angered over being questioned by his wife over an alleged affair, a constable working with Cyberabad commissionerate allegedly attempted to kill his wife at Madhapur. S Vali Basha, posted at Jagatgirigutta police station, had attacked S Haseena Banu with a kitchen knife injuring her hands.
The woman, along with her family, approached the cops and lodged an attempt to murder case against Vali Basha. His mother, brother and sisters were booked for demanding additional dowry. Madhapur Inspector R Kalinga Rao said that Basha was detained for inquiry and the women had been sent for medical examination. “Based on the evidence, an investigation will proceed,” he said.
Haseena Banu, from Kurnool, was married to Basha in 2002. During the marriage, her parents gave him Rs 1.5 lakh cash and 12 tola Gold jewellery, household articles worth `One lakh as dowry. They moved to police quarters at Madhapur. Immediately after shifting to Madhapur, instigated by his elder brother Rahmatullah, Basha started harassing Haseena mentally and physically and demanded more dowry. The torture doubled after she delivered their first female child. After she delivered a second girl child, his demand for dowry increased.
“Though I wanted to get a family planning operation done, he forced me to conceive again. In addition, due to regular physical and mental torture, my health worsened. As the first three kids were girls, he never took care of them or me and it continued from the beginning,” Haseena told the cops. Last year, when she complained to the Kurnool Police, they counselled him for more than five times, but he continued the torture after they came back to Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, recently, while going through one of his mobile conversations, Haseena found that Basha was having an illegal affair with another woman. On Thursday night, he came home heavily drunk and started beating Haseena when she asked him about the illegal affair. He also attacked her with a kitchen knife. Alerted by Haseena, SHE teams rushed to the house and counselled Basha and advised her to lodge a complaint, but after they left, he assaulted her again.
Man held for injuring wife, daughter
Bahadurpura police arrested a person for allegedly harassing his wife and daughter physically demanding additional dowry. According to the police, one Shah Ali got married a few years ago and the couple had a 14 year-old daughter. Ali was addicted to liquor. He would come home late in drunken condition and assault his wife. A few days ago, he assaulted his wife and daughter injuring them. The woman, along with her daughter, approached the Bahadurpura police and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case of harassment and arrested Ali.
