Low-lying bridges submerged in Adilabad, road transportation hit

ADILABAD: Heavy rain in erstwhile Adilabad district led to some rivers, projects and streams swelling and water flowing over some low-lying bridges affecting road transportation in some areas. The approach road on the outskirts of Chennur village was damaged in the floods following which the road transportation from Chennur to Kaleshwaram and Maharashtra State was halted.

After the Kadam project started receiving inflows at a rate of 64,437 cusecs, the officials concerned lifted eight gates of the project here on Sunday to release 67,555 cusecs of water downstream. The Yellampalli project was receiving inflows of 3,72,965 cusecs from its catchment areas following which officials lifted 38 gates to release 3,49,827 cusecs of water downstream.

The water level in the project was recorded at 6.274 tmcft on Sunday evening against its full reservoir level of 7.6 tmcft. Boath mandal received the highest rainfall in Adilabad district (44.8mm) followed by Pembi mandal (71.50mm), Echoda mandal (58.6 mm), Bazarathnoor mandal (55.60 mm).

The least rainfall was recorded in Gudithanoor mandal (28.6mm). Mancherial Collector Bharati Holikeri has instructed the officials to stay vigilant and take efforts to shift the people in low-lying areas to safer places.
