Streams overflow as rain lashes Telangana's Kamareddy, Nizamabad

NIZAMABAD: Heavy rains continued to lash Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts on Sunday, resulting in the overflowing of streams and tanks at several villages. Around one lakh cusecs of water is being released through 30 gates of the Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) into the river Godavari as there is a heavy inflow. SRSP engineers are predicting the inflows to continue for some more days because of heavy rains upstream of the river. Overflowing of water is also being reported from another major irrigation project, Nizamsagar, into the river Manjira.

Nizamabad district has so far recorded an average rainfall of 84.6 mm. The highest rainfall of 176.8 mm has been reported in Navipet mandal. Rudrur mandal has recorded 39 mm. Kamareddy district has recorded an average rainfall of 62.6 mm. Nagireddypet mandal has recorded 99.7 mm while Madnur has witnessed 30.1 mm. Three of the mandals in the district are in a very excess rainfall category, four in normal category and the rest in the excess category.
