KARIMNAGAR: As rains continued to lash the erstwhile Karimnagar district on Sunday, the floodgates of Mid Manair Dam (MMD) and Lower Manair Dam (LMD) were lifted to release surplus water into the Manair river. The inflow into the MMD was recorded at a rate of 43,000 cusecs following which 12 floodgates of the project were lifted to release 49,591 cusecs of water. After LMD started receiving 81,816 cusecs of water from the MMD and other catchment areas, 14 floodgates were lifted to release 96,539 cusecs of water.
Two die as car swept away in flood
Two people died after the car in which they were travelling was swept away in the floodwaters in the wee hours of the day at the Fazulnagar - Vemulawada culvert. The occupants were heading towards Hyderabad when they met with the accident.
The victims were identified as Burra Gagngu, 48, and her four-year-old grandson Kittu.Two other passengers, Naresh and Md Rizwan, were rescued and shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad. They belonged to Chalgal village of Jagtial district. The car was later pulled out of the floodwaters using a JCB.

Ragpicker drowns in temple tank
A 22-year-old ragpicker, Janagama Nagaraju, drowned in Vemulawada temple tank where he went to collect iron rods a day after the immersion of Ganesh idols. in another incident at Narsignapur village of Jammikunta mandal, a tree fell on a tin shed which belonged to Seelam Malla Reddy, however, the inmates had a narrow escape. The road connectivity to several villages was cut off due to the floodwaters.
