HANAMKONDA: Bala Bhavan which trains children in music, dance, drawing and other cultural activities, is on the verge of closure due lack of staff and funds. It’s being run in Jawaharlal Nehru Outdoor Stadium in Hanamkonda as there is no permanent building for Bala Bhavan. Years together, it was in the limelight, but since the three years, it has been negligently run by the government and is running towards closure.

Warangal is the second largest city after the State capital. Known for its architectural grandeur and cultural heritage, Warangal has all the required elements to be called a hot spot. Hundreds of children learned Kuchipudi, violin, mridangam, vocal, stitching, and several other arts at the Bala Bhavan. In the recent past, faculty retirements were not fulfilled by the state government, which led to the closure of the Bala Bhavan.

Artistes from various art forms have been demanding the State government take measures for needy children to save the Bala Bhavan by recruiting faculty and creating amenities. According to the information, a total of eight teaching staff members are required to run Bala Bhavan. At present, only two staff are working, and the remaining staff are being retried from the service. There is no recruitment of staff in the Bala Bhavan. The instruments the violin, mridangam, and drawing materials are damaged, and the funds are also not being released for the purchase of new instruments and the development of the Bala Bhavan.

Speaking to the Express, Bala Bhavan staff, who don’t want to be named, said that every day 40 to 50 children attend the music, dance, and Mridangam classes in Bala Bhavan. The parents are not showing interest in sending their children due to the lack of instruments and the fact that there are no amenities in the Bhavan. We have submitted a representation to the concerned officials for the release of funds and the recruitment of staff, but till now there has been no response from them. The Warangal West MLA and Government Chief Whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar have failed to secure the release of funds from the state government.

The Bala Bhavan is just 250 metres from the MLA’s camp office. “We request the officials to recruit staff and release funds for the development of Bala Bhavan,” said Officials. When TNIE was contacted, Warangal West MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar was not available for comment.
