Mercury levels inch close to 46°C

HYDERABAD/ADILABAD: Several areas in the State are witnessing maximum temperatures close to 46°C.A number of districts experienced temperatures hovering above 45°C on Sunday, with districts such as Mancherial, Jagtial, Kumurambheem Asifabad, Nizamabad and Nalgonda all experiencing heatwave-like conditions. Out of all the areas affected, Kasipet in the Mancherial district recorded the highest temperature of 45.9°C, followed by Jannaram at 45.8°C and Vemanpally at 45°C.

Since the onset of summer, the weather has been intense, with limited cloudy weather and rainfall activity, causing maximum temperatures to hover above 45°C in several areas. In Hyderabad, temperatures have been above 40°C, with Khairatabad registering a maximum temperature of 41°C on Sunday. The Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) has forecasted that maximum temperatures will continue to hover above 45°C in various parts of the State, while in Hyderabad, they are expected to remain in the range of 40°C to 42°C over the next two days.

Northern districts were badly affected

The temperatures in the erstwhile Adilabad district are soaring. On Sunday, the scorching heat reached its peak with Kondapur village recording a temperature of 45.9°C, closely followed by Jannaram at 45.8° C and Vemanpelli village at 45.5°C. Arli T village in the Adilabad district witnessed the maximum day temperature of 44.8°C, while Bhutpur village in the Nirmal district recorded 44.7°C. Several areas on Sunday experienced the highest temperatures so far this season.

The relentless heat has led to a deserted atmosphere in the markets, with people preferring to stay indoors from 10 am until around 6 pm to avoid the extreme heat. The officials at the agriculture research station are actively alerting the public about the prevailing weather conditions and advising them to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
