Regularise contract teachers, UTACTS to govt

The State government issued an order on February 26, 2016, to regularise the services of contract, degree, polytechnic and junior college lecturers.

HYDERABAD: The Universities Teachers’ Association Telangana State (UTACTS) on Sunday demanded the regularisation of contract teachers working in all 12 Telangana universities in accordance with government orders. The association stated that the contract teachers had all the necessary qualifications as per UGC/AICTE norms and were working against budget-sanctioned vacant posts.

The State government had issued an order on February 26, 2016, to regularise the services of Contract Degree, Polytechnic and Junior college Lecturers. Referring to the same, the contract teachers in universities said that they too should be considered under the order.

The association cited examples of various State governments in the country, including Karnataka, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab, which have regularised the contractual services of assistant professors and part-time lecturers through special acts in their Assemblies.
