HYDERABAD: Pointing out that the BRS leadership did not resign even when serious allegations surfaced in the liquor scam involving K Kavitha, daughter of then chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, BJP state president N Ramchander Rao on Monday said that if Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar had done anything wrong, the party would take action against him.
Rejecting demands from BRS leaders that Sanjay be removed from the Union Cabinet, Ramchander Rao accused the pink party of “peddling lies” against the BJP.
He alleged that several BRS corporators, leaders and ward members had faced serious allegations in cases of rape, harassment and assaults on minors during their tenure.
“Names of TRS (now BRS) leaders and associates surfaced in cases involving the drugging and kidnapping of young women, as well as the rape of a minor girl in Nirmal municipality. With such a dark history, what moral right does the BRS have to speak about women’s rights and safety of minors today? Did KCR resign when those incidents happened? Did KTR (KT Rama Rao) take responsibility? Did anyone show political morality then? Targeting the BJP now is nothing but a blatant attempt to mislead the public for political gains,” he said.
‘BRS men have no right to lecture others on morality’
Addressing a preparatory meeting at the BJP state office to review upcoming party programmes, Ramchander Rao alleged that crimes against women had risen sharply during the BRS regime.
Quoting NCRB data, he said crimes registered against women in Telangana stood at 14,147 in 2014 and rose to 23,679 by 2023, an increase of nearly 67%. “The BRS leadership must answer for this,” he said.
He said that before lecturing others, BRS leaders must answer for incidents that took place during their own regime.
The former MLC said it was absurd that those who approached courts when investigations began into alleged irregularities and corruption in the Kaleshwaram project were now lecturing others on morality.
He claimed that the public had already rejected the BRS and alleged that, fearing investigations into the Kaleshwaram project and Formula E-Race case, KTR and other BRS leaders were running a campaign against the BJP. He further alleged that the political environment in Telangana had deteriorated because of defamation and personal attacks by parties like the BRS. He accused BRS leaders of targeting BJP leaders and their families for political mileage.
Alleging that a coordinated effort was underway to defame the BJP through posters, social media campaigns and favourable media outlets, Ramchander Rao claimed that Rama Rao was spearheading the campaign.
He also clarified that “what happened here involves Bandi Sanjay’s family members. If his family members have committed any wrongdoing, the law will take its course, and the courts will decide. Legally, anyone can seek anticipatory bail. It is not ‘fleeing’, but exercising a right available under the law.”
The former MLC said every call given by PM Narendra Modi was aimed at the country’s interests and that “Mera Bharat - Mera Yogdaan” meant every citizen fulfilling their responsibility towards the nation.
