HYDERABAD: Hyderabad is set to get a Tesla electric vehicle showroom and service centre, with the global EV giant expressing interest in expanding its presence in Telangana. Representatives of Tesla met IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Friday and conveyed the company’s plans to commence sales operations in the city.
He said Tesla is not merely an EV manufacturer but a company driving innovation in electric vehicle software, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, robotics, battery technologies and advanced manufacturing. He added that the state’s technology ecosystem aligns well with Tesla’s long-term goals.
The minister said companies based in the city are playing a key role in developing chips and sensors required for next-generation electric and smart mobility systems globally.
Sridhar invites Tesla to set up ancillary units
Sridhar Babu observed that electric vehicles currently account for only around four per cent of India’s automobile market, indicating immense growth potential for the sector. He said the state government is actively promoting EV adoption and aims to develop Hyderabad into a global hub for clean technology and advanced mobility solutions.
The minister also invited Tesla representatives to explore opportunities for expanding ancillary industries related to the company in Telangana and assured full support from the state government for investments in the industrial and technology sectors.
The minister congratulated Tesla India General Manager Sharad Agarwal and Lead Public Policy and Business Development Director Rajat for considering Hyderabad as the company’s next destination for sales and service operations. He expressed happiness that Hyderabad was being chosen after Tesla established four sales showrooms in other parts of the country.
Government IT advisor Saikrishna, TGIIC Managing Director Shashank, Industries Department Commissioner Nikhil Chakravarthy and Special Secretary Raghurama Sharma, among others, were present at the meeting.
