LUCKNOW: FIR was registered against Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, MP Pappu Yadav and SP MP Awadhesh Prasad with Kotwali police following a complaint from a group of seers in Varanasi.
The move comes after the enactment of a spoof depicting alleged embezzlement of donation money in the Ram Temple on the Parliament campus in Delhi with the intent to attack the BJP-led NDA government.
DCP Kashi zone Gaurav Banswal, who received the complaint of the group of seers on Saturday, said that based on the complaint, FIR against Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, Awadhesh Prasad and Rahul Gandhi had been lodged under Section 196 (Promoting enmity between different groups), 299 (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 302 (Uttering words or making gestures with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings)and 3(5) (criminal act is done by multiple people with a shared intent) of BNS.
The complaint was submitted by Patalpuri Peethadhishwar Jagadguru Balak Devacharya, on behalf of seers.
He said that the seers' fraternity was deeply hurt by the act of insulting Bhagwa (saffron robes), which is considered to be a pious colour in Sanatan tradition.
"Pappu Yadav wore Bhagwa and posed himself as a Sadhu to stage a drama on the Parliament campus to showcase donation theft. Rahul Gandhi and Awadhesh Prasad made gestures of donating in a donation box. They used Bhagwa for a political demonstration and made mockery of Sanatan tradition, Lord Ram and insulted the faith of crores of Hindus", said Devacharya.
"Instead of being any natural or instant reaction on any issue, it was a well-planned and coordinated show of mocking Sanatan and Bhagwa by fixing the role of each participant", he said, mentioning all evidence to insult religious symbols and faith are available in the public forum, which should be examined to know the role of every member of Parliament involved.
DCP Banswal said that investigation is underway. On the other hand, Devacharya warned that, angered by this drama on the Parliament campus, the seers' fraternity said that in case of delay in action, the seers would launch a massive stir.
