DVK cadre murdered in Kovai, one surrenders

A 31-year-old male member of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam (DVK) was stabbed and hacked to death late on Thursday.

COIMBATORE: A 31-year-old male member of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam (DVK) was stabbed and hacked to death late on Thursday. On Friday, one person surrendered before the Coimbatore Judicial Magistrate Court V taking responsibility for the attack.  
The deceased was identified as Farook (31), a daily wage labour working in Ukkadam old market and a resident of Ukkadam South housing unit.

Around 11 pm on Thursday, he received a phone call following which he stepped out of his house. As he reached Ukkadam waste treatment plant road, a four-member gang waylaid him and attempted to stab him. He dropped his two-wheeler and tried to escape. But the gang, which came in an auto and two wheeler, caught him and stabbed him in his stomach. They later hacked his neck. On hearing the cries, a few people rushed in. But the gang fled the spot.
Big Bazaar police arrived immediately after the incident. Deputy Commissioner S Saravanan also came and inquired with the people, after which the police came to know that it was a four member gang that attacked him. Forensic department and the fingerprints bureau personnel collected available evidence from the scene of crime.

Farook, an atheist, was rigid in his principles and ideology. Later, the body was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for autopsy. On hearing the news, hundreds of cadres belonging to DVK, Dravidar Kazhagam and Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam arrived at the hospital.
Later in the day, M Ansardh (31), a resident of Podanur, surrendered before the Coimbatore Judicial Magistrate Court V in connection with the murder.
