HYDERABAD: A health team would visit Pul Naik mandal of Asifabad district to study incidents of kidney-related diseases there. Health minister C Laxma Reddy passed instructions to this effect at a meeting held with the district health officials and special chief secretary Rajeshwar Tiiwari on Thursday.
Asifabad’s district medical and health officer (DMHO) Dr Subba Rayudu explained at the meeting that the problems are arising due to quality of water. “A 36-year-old man died because of kidney disease and nine are suffering from the disease. Of them, three are undergoing dialysis. They have been drinking borewell water from the past five-years,” Dr Subba Rayudu said.
He added that around 230 people stay in the thanda and that they demand to be shifted to other locality. Water samples from the locality were collected and sent for tests. People who are suffering from the disease would be provided treatment in Hyderabad. To test severity of the diseases, the patients will be first taken to government hospital in Warangal on Friday. Diarrhoea or fever cases were not reported in the thanda. Recently, a medical team from Harvard Medical School visited Uddanam, Srikakulam, AP to study reasons for incidence of kidney diseases there.
