SURYAPET : Taking on the TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy on his home turf, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao accused Congress leaders of compromising on the interests of Telangana, during the regime of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, especially on the irrigation front in the then united state.While announcing a slew of development projects to the erstwhile Nalgonda district, the CM said, “Uttam and other Congress leaders groveled to the then CM YSR for ministerial berths.
They failed to question YSR when he constructed two controversial projects — Pulichinthala and Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, to take away Krishna waters to Andhra. Uttam even failed to get proper compensation to the oustees of Pulichinthala project, who are in this district. But now, he is trying to provoke people being affected by irrigation projects against our government.” Rao then attributed Telangana State’s backwardness to previous Congress rulers, who were in power in the erstwhile united AP.
On his second day of district tours, on Thursday, Rao visited Suryapet district and laid the foundation stone for integrated collectorate complex and district police headquarters in Suryapet town. Later, while addressing a public meeting, the CM accused Congress of doing grave injustice to Telangana, particularly backward districts like erstwhile combined Nalgonda district on irrigation front. “Nagarjuna Sagar dam was supposed to be built at Yeleswaram, 19 kilometers above the present project site.
Had they built it at Yeleswaram, more than 10 lakh acres in the erstwhile combined Nalgonda district would have availed irrigation facilities. The then Congress leaders were responsible for the grave injustice done to Telangana on this front,” Rao criticised. He then further alleged that Nagarjuna Sagar Left Bank Canal, which provides water to Nalgonda and Khammam districts, was completely ignored by the successive governments in the then united state. KCR said his government was firm on correcting the injustice done to Telangana, particularly to the erstwhile Nalgonda district, on irrigation front.
“That is why I am committed to complete all irrigation projects in the state. My main focus is on completing Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, which will provide water to Suryapet, Kodad and other segments in the district,” he said.Alleging that Congress leaders were creating hurdles for the construction of Kaleshwaram and other projects, Rao said that he would complete the project at any cost. “I won’t buckle down under the pressure of Congress leaders like Uttam Kumar Reddy. Despite the machinations of Uttam against irrigation projects, I promise you, I will complete the construction of Kaleshawaram project to provide water to every inch of land in the state,” he said.

Ahead of CM’s visit, oppn leaders put under house arrest
Suryapet : In view of Chief Minister K Chandrasekar Rao’s visit to Suryapet district on Thursday, police put BJP leader Sankineni Venkateshwar Rao and Congress leader R Damodhar Reddy under house arrest. Opposition parties’ leaders had earlier warned that they would attend the CM’s meeting wearing black badges to protest against selection of private land for construction of a new collectorate. They alleged that even though government land was available near Suryapet, government selected a piece of land that belongs to the followers of minister Jagadheesh Reddy. Envisioning trouble, police put the two Opposition leaders under house arrest During the house arrest of Venkateswar Rao, BJP activists tried to stop the police and were lathicharged. A few of them were injured.
