THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kannur airport in north Kerala is set to host its first test flight next month, with commercial operations slated for September 2016.

Although the state government had targeted the test flight this month, heavy rains and protests over blasting for extensions forced the postponement, minister K Babu said. In October, Emirates Airline and Air India Express had expressed interest in flagging services to Kannur by mid-2016. Kannur will become the fourth international airport in Kerala, after Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.
