VIRUDHUNAGAR/CHENNAI: DMDK has hit a controversy during its campaign. After its youth wing leader L K Sudhish declared the leaders of People’s Welfare Alliance (PWA) to be the part of the State cabinet that his party leader Vijayakant is hoping to form, MDMK and the Left have declined the ‘portfolio’ offers during separate events.
At Kovilpatti on Tuesday, Vijayakanth’s brother-in-law Sudhish said the PWA leaders, including alliance coordinator and MDMK general secretary Vaiko, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan and his CPI counterpart R Mutharasan would be part of Vijayakant’s cabinet. However, next day at Sattur, Vaiko—the deputy CM as per Sudhish’s offer—ruled out joining the cabinet. The DMDK-PWA alliance would win all seven constituencies in Virudhunagar district, Vaiko said. Meanwhile in Chennai, Ramakrishnan said the statement Sudhish made was a mark of his confidence that the DMDK-PWA alliance would emerge victorious.
AIADMK recently mocked DMDK for announcing ‘portfolios’ of its electoral partners, saying such a situation would not arise. In a brief sarcastic write-up, AIADMK mouthpiece Dr Namadhu MGR sought to compare the DMDK-PWF alliance and Sudhish’s announcement to a popular comedy in a Tamil movie Oorai Therinchukitten that would end up in disappointment to an auctioneer.
