Celebrity Ambassadors Keep Their Brooms in the Closet

Little has been heard of the Swachh Bharat ambassadors, especially celebrities and star politicians, since they were nominated.

NEW DELHI: The photo-ops, the brooms and the selfies seem to have faded into oblivion. Little has been heard of the Swachh Bharat ambassadors, especially celebrities and star politicians, since they were nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his pet project’s launch on October 2, 2014.

Barring some initial photo-ops and an event in the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the galaxy of personalities—Priyanka Chopra, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Ambani, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shashi Tharoor, Kapil Sharma, Katrina Kaif, Manoj Tiwari, Kiran Bedi and Virat Kohli—mandated to promote cleanliness seem to have almost forgotten their onerous responsibilities.

The Sunday Standard sought to reach out to Tendulkar, Tharoor, Tiwari, Bedi, Khan and Chopra. Most of them, barring Bedi, did not respond to queries about their initiatives.
