Demand

Former Karnataka speaker and BJP legislator KG Bopaiah has demanded that the state government should seek permission from Centre for culling elephants in Kodagu district. In the state that has more than 6,000 elephants, the incidents of human-elephant conflicts in several districts have increased alarmingly. In 2015, nearly 13 people were killed, and this year two people were killed and two others injured. However, the government is yet to come out with any solution to the problem. Notably, both forest officials and wildlife experts say capturing or relocating the animals will not solve the problem.
