NEW DELHI: Two years after the formation of the Krishna Circuit, the project is waiting for divine intervention to take off. Even BJP MP Hema Malini’s Krishna Theme Park project has been dropped from the Krishna Circuit in Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

In July 2016, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture approved projects worth `195 crore for the Krishna circuit as part of the part of Swadesh Darshan Scheme launched in 2014-15. Twelve destinations —Dwarka (Gujarat); Nathdwara, Jaipur and Sikar (Rajasthan); Kurukshetra (Haryana), Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Barsana, Nandgaon and Govardhan (Uttar Pradesh); and Puri (Odisha)—were approved.

A Krishna Theme Park was proposed to be built near the Yamuna Expressway near Mathura to highlight the life and times of Lord Krishna.
The project envisages world class infrastructural development of sites with special emphasis on audio-visual shows, site illumination, solar and street lighting, tourist facilitation centres, infrastructural development of wayside amenities, fountains and landscaping, among others.

Ministry officials said projects for under Krishna Circuit in Uttar Pradesh have been approved in-principle and work will start soon. In UP, Nandgaon, Barsana, Mathura, Vrindavan and Govardhan will be developed under the scheme.
“Clearances take time. The tendering process is still on,” said Suman Billa, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
