WARANGAL: Success can sometimes be tricky to handle. Improvement of quality of education in government schools is a feat worth appreciation. However, the Government High School in Karimabad has gotten so popular that parents are now clamouring for admission of their wards in it, ultimately leading to the school administration to put out a notice at the gate saying ‘Admissions Closed’, an unprecedented sight at any government school. If a citizen cannot depend on a government school, who else can they depend on?

The school in Karimabad suburb has become very popular in recent times for providing quality education and improved facilities. It has found fancy with middle and lower income group families who rejoiced that their children could be educated properly, and they wouldn’t even have to pay through their nose for it. But many of them were in a shock when they found that the school could not take anymore students because all the seats have been filled.

Several parents got into heated arguments with the principal. “How can you refuse my child’s admission? This is a government school! We have a right to get them admitted here,” said a distraught parent of a girl studying in Class VI. The secondary school headmaster R Upkar Reddy tried to explain to many a parent that they had already taken in more students than the sanctioned strength, but they would barely listen. “We do not mind if our child has to sit on the floor, just admit her,” a parent is learnt to have said.

The school currently has a total strength of 976(452 in primary section and 524 in high school). For the current academic year, the school received 158 and 180 new admissions in primary and secondary sections respectively.  The school’s performance in SSC examination, with a 94 pass percentage, is also worth a mention. Foreseeing this Warangal Urban district collector Amrapali Kata had sanctioned construction of additional classrooms and other facilities but they are not yet ready yet.
