THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday said people of the state were getting scared upon hearing the National Anthem, as they feared that failing to stand up when it played would get them arrested. Delivering the keynote address in the  international seminar on  ‘The Impact of October Revolution on struggle for Peace and against War’, organised as part of All-India Peace and Solidarity organisation (AIPSO)’s national conference, he said instead of Indian nationalism, Hindu nationalism was getting promoted in the country.

Terming demonetisation ‘an economic war unleashed on people’, he said the move is a bailout package for banks that were looted of `7 lakh crore by 10 major industrialists in the past few years. No effort has been made to recover the amount. Instead, the  government is unleashing an economic war on people through demonetisation.”
“Banks collapse when corporate giants like Vijay Mallya loot them. To prevent this, government is bailing out the banks at the cost of common man,” he said. “India has become a strategic junior part of the United States of America.”

Referring to the impact of fallout of the dismantling of the Soviet Union and the expansion of war in countries like Iran, West Asia, Africa and Latin America, Yechury said there was no counterbalance to the US.

“NATO unilaterally decides which country should be their next target. USA’s containment of China is the foremost objective of global strategic planning. USA says India is a major strategic defence partner thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s four visits to USA in two years. India is really the USA’s strategic junior partner and is now obliged to serve its ships engaged in war,” he claimed.

Saying that the Malabar exercise jointly conducted by the USA ,Japan and India in South China Sea was part of the larger game plan to contain China, he added that such attempts would help build up war clouds over several countries. C P Narayanan MP welcomed the gathering. Cooperation Minister Kadakampally Surendran and others also spoke.
