According to the IMA officials, the triaging of outpatients visiting emergency room and OPD has been severely affected as the RT-PCR test results are getting delayed.
As the district is nearing 100 per cent vaccination, collector Jaffer Malik has ordered a strict ban on Covid antigen testing at government and private labs in the district.
Real Time Polymer Chain Reaction test (RT-PCR), which detects the viral genetic material (RNA), is considered more reliable than Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
Besides this, the government purchased 1195 Haematology Cell Count kits, paying an excess of about Rs 25 crore, and in another instance, purchased 165 units and paid about Rs 6.18 crore in excess.
It further said the production capacity of COVID-19 testing kits has been substantially enhanced, "making India atmanirbhar (self-reliant)".
Exporters have to seek licence or permission from the DGFT to ship items under the restricted category.
The ICMR approved test kit was launched by Union Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre on Friday.

On Friday, 1,09,520 tests were conducted in the state, of which 34,246 were RT-PCR and 73,541 were antigen tests. The state has relied more on antigen tests rather than RT-PCR tests.

Hospitals resorting to this measure as testing in rural areas is very low, with just 50 RAT kits given per PHC & labs being located in district headquarters
Also, as per the health research agency, all individuals who test positive may be considered as true positives and no repeat testing is required.
As a result, PHCs are now forced to issue tokens for RATs, just like how they conduct RT-PCR tests.
