The BSE benchmark was trading 153.25 points lower at 52,540.32 in early trade. The Nifty declined by 39.55 points to 15,692.55.
There are speculations that the central bank may go for at least 35 basis points hike over and above the 40 bps hike effected last month after an off-cycle Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
High crude oil prices and foreign fund outflows also played spoilsport. The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 185.24 points or 0.33 per cent to settle at 55,381.17.
Along similar lines, the broader NSE Nifty gained 144.35 points or 0.90 per cent to end at 16,170.15.
The 30-share BSE Sensex rallied 1,534.16 points or 2.91 per cent to settle at 54,326.39.
Sisodia, who is also city’s education minister, said the government will also set up an integrated mechanism to help state universities collaborate with one another on projects of similar interests.
The broader NSE Nifty dipped 25.85 points or 0.16 per cent to settle at 15,782.15.
The 30-share BSE Sensex dived 866.65 points or 1.56 per cent to finish at 54,835.58. During the day, it tanked 1,115.48 points or 2 per cent to 54,586.75.
Interest rate hikes are barreling towards us, but ironically, the previous rate cuts haven’t been fully transmitted yet, raising doubts over the efficacy of monetary policy transmission.
The 50-scrip NSE Nifty was trading at 17,116.20, at 9:57 am, up by 157.50 points or 0.93 per cent.
At 9:16 am, the Sensex was up 269.23 points or 0.47 per cent at 57435.97, and the Nifty was up 92.80 points or 0.54 per cent at 17266.50.
HDFC Bank was the top loser in the Sensex pack, followed by Bajaj Finserv, HDFC, Kotak Bank, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, and Reliance Industries.
The 30-share BSE Sensex closed up by 696.81 points or 1.22 per cent at 57,989.30. The broader NSE Nifty climbed 197.90 points or 1.16 per cent to finish at 17,315.50.
Among Sensex constituents, Power Grid, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, Nestle, Hindustan Unilever Limited and HCL Technologies were among the major laggards.
The 30-share BSE index closed 1,047.28 points or 1.84 per cent higher at 57,863.93. Likewise, the NSE Nifty surged 311.70 points or 1.84 per cent to end at 17,287.05.
