Allahabad High Court has asked Chinmayanand to surrender before the Shahjahanpur district on or before October 30 in connection with a rape case dated back to 2011.
His disciple, who lived on the ashram premises, filed the case seven years ago. The former Union minister had faced similar allegations by a law student studying in his college in 2019.
The opposition party added on its official Twitter handle that district borders in Shahjahanpur have been blocked from all sides and Congress leaders such as Jitin Prasada detained.
The former Union minister was arrested by the SIT on Friday and sent to 14 days' judicial custody.
The SIT, which was set up by the UP govt in compliance of the SC order is expected to lodge FIR on the basis of the woman’s complaint after her statement is recorded.
The Shahjahanpur police have maintained they could not find Chinmayanand at any of his ashrams in Haridwar and Dehradun.
