Fraudsters pose as Army officers and approach potential landlords
Ernakulam Rural Cyber police station has registered a case and launched a probe into the incident.
The arrested Nigerian was identified as Samson Emike Aliga ( 39). He was living in a rented accommodation in the national Capital.
The threat of foreign hackers came to light when a few social media influencers filed complaints that their accounts in Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and other platforms had been compromised.
The accused was previously involved in a rape case filed in Govindpuri police station and was out on bail. Ankit is an SSC aspirant.
"The money gets credited into the people’s account just by downloading these applications even if they don’t borrow. Later, they are asked to repay more than double the amount which is credited."
The cyber cheats are using applications which give them access of mobile phones from remote location, including access to OTPs being sent on a user's number without them realising it.
