HC issues notice to Centre, Delhi govt over direction to permit operation of public transport in districts
The PIL, filed by Shreesh Chadha, has sought appropriate direction to the respondent to frame guidelines to ensure safety and hygiene of the passengers and public transport operators.
Public transit systems are seeing ridership tank as millions of commuters are working from home following the government order, choosing less social contact.
Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, said his government has also planned to build multi-level bus depots, which would be the first of its kind in the country.
“Our target is to receive 1,000 standard floor buses by March and then the fleet of low-floor buses would be brought in by June,” a source in the transport ministry told this newspaper.
With the free rides, the state government also deployed 13,000 bus marshals to ensure women’s safety which according to Priya Bagel, a DU student, has led to many of her friends opting for buses.
The 37-seater buses have hydraulic lifts for the convenience of the differently-abled. Also, 14 panic buttons and three CCTV cameras are installed in each bus.
The new fleet of buses includes hydraulic lifts for differently-abled passengers, GPS for tracking the bus, panic buttons, anti-vandalism seats and surveillance cameras.
