Manas’ father Panchanan Swain had lodged a complaint in Chandbali police station alleging his son was kidnapped on February 7.
Manas, a native of Nayagarh district, told them that he can recover a deleted file from Sarmistha’s computer.
On the day, the officers took Sarmistha and Niranjan to Sampurna office near Sundarpada here.

The Crime Branch officers said Sarmistha, editor of Bhubaneswar based web-channel Sampurna, had visited Niranjan's house in Prasanti Vihar area of the City on March 8.
The investigating agency, however, has not been able to recover the memory chip that Manas was in possession of.
The Crime Branch on Thursday recovered evidence related to cameraman Manas Swain’s murder.
Sarmistha, the editor of Bhubaneswar based web-channel Sampurna, and her associate Jhuna revealed before the investigators that to evade arrest they frequently changed their locations.
Manas worked as a cameraman with Sarmistha’s web channel for about six months but quit the job in January after a fall-out with her.
Police said initial investigation suggests Manas was murdered as he was in possession of a memory chip having some sensitive content related to a few high profile people
Manas had also mentioned that they snatched his camera, mobile phone and Rs 4,000 from him.
Shantilata Bal, mother-in-law of Sarmistha, told mediapersons on Wednesday that the accused had showed up all of a sudden at her home on March 7 night.
The Crime Branch has taken over the investigation into the murder of Nayagarh-based cameraman Manas Swain even as the case continues to grow murkier by the day.
Niranjan was arrested on Monday for his alleged involvement in Swain’s murder.
Stating that they killed her husband in fear that the truth will come out, Jamuna demanded their arrest.
