Kerala gold smuggling case: No evidence against Sarith, Sandeep other than their statements, says court
The court had granted bail to the duo on Wednesday even after the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India appearing for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) contested the bail plea
However, they will not be released from jail as they are in preventive detention under COFEPOSA in a case filed by the customs.
Appearing for the Enforcement Directorate, Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India had submitted that the Kerala police are fabricating evidence against ED officers to stall the investigation.
The state said the FIRs do not impinge upon the investigations carried out by any of the central agencies in the gold smuggling and allied crimes.
Sandeep was pressured while he was in ED custody in Ernakulam and later while he was being questioned by the ED sleuths in Central Prison, Poojapura.
