Speaking to mediapersons, Odisha BJP secretary Kalandi Samal said Talcher Coalfield is witnessing constant protests due to tacit support of the State government.
Protesting the demolition, locals alleged MCL bulldozers razed their houses without prior notice and demanded full compensation as per norms.
Sources said that though the association agreed to settle for Rs 36,000 Puja bonus from the earlier Rs 40,000 demand, MCL officials and contractors did not accept the offer.
Sources said that there was no coal production and dispatch from the coalfield on the day due to the stir by drivers and helpers engaged in eight mines.
Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) PK Sinha visited the Bhubaneswari and Lingaraj open cast projects in Talcher on Monday.
Mahanadi Coalfields exceeded the five-lakh-tonne offtake target by dispatching 5.18 lakh tonne dry fuel to the coal consumers.
