Some of the BJP supporters also floated a Facebook page portraying Roy as the chief ministerial face in crucial 2021 Assembly elections.
Roy said he met Vijayvargiya and had said the priority should be to defeat the TMC government in the next assembly polls due in April-May, 2021.
Roy, a former West Bengal BJP president, had earlier said that he is willing to accept any role the party entrusts him with.
The Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 started on April 15 and were suppressed on June 4 after the government declared martial law and sent the military to occupy central parts of Beijing.
As his departure triggered speculation that the Centre took the move to keep him away from the protests in the Northeast, Roy tweeted to explain the situation.
His tweet came hours before protesters reached the entrance of the Raj Bhavan, tried to breach security following which they were lathi-charged and tear-gassed leaving several of them seriously injured.
