While the attack took place at Gyanpura village, about 7 km from the district headquarters, late on Sunday night, the priest Baba Arundas succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
Earlier, temple priests used to get nominal salaries based on the revenues of temples and income that they collected from devotees.
Of the 24, five belong to scheduled communities. This is the first time men from scheduled communities were appointed as priests in temples under the State’s management.
In their opposition against the Devasthanam Board, the priests said that their rights are being played due to the formation of this board.
