RK Nagar bypoll: CM Palaniswami, O Panneerselvam hit campaign trail, reach out to poor with promise of houses
AIADMK began the campaign for the by-election by seeking votes for the Two Leaves symbol restored by the EC a fortnight ago.
Also, speaking about the ‘two-leaves’ symbol, Dhinakaran said, “Whatever symbol we get, we will accept it and teach lesson to our opponents in upcoming RK Nagar bypolls.”
The plea for urgent hearing of the matter was mentioned before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar and sought quashing of the November 23 order of the EC.
The other faction of the AIADMK led by TTV had also laid claim over the symbol after a power tussle ensued in the party following the death of Jayalalithaa.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Friday filed a caveat in the Supreme Court in connection with the 'two leaves' symbol case.
The decision comes two days after the Madras High Court directed the Election Commission to conduct the by-poll to late Jayalalithaa's RK Nagar constituency before December 31.
The deadline was set for October 31 with this being the third timeline that came from high court benches in connection with the AIADMK party turf war.
The police has claimed that money recovered from alleged middleman Sukesh Chandrashekar was sent by Dhinakaran through unaccounted channels with the help of others.
Sukesh Chandrasekhar, an alleged middleman, was produced at the residence of a Special Judge, who allowed the Delhi Police to interrogate the accused for eight days.
The police kept rushing from one court to another and finally took the accused to the house of the concerned judge in south Delhi.
Dinakaran said that he doesn't know who is Sukesh Chandrasekar and that he never spoke to him over telephone or have come across the person in his life.
FIR against Dinakaran on charges of trying to bribe Election Commission officials for AIADMK's two leaves symbol
Dinakaran's close aide has been arrested by the cops with cash of Rs 1.5 crore, and two luxury cars — a BMW and a Benz — have also been nabbed.
While the decision impacts both sides, it is the official faction headed by deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran that would be hurt more by the EC's decision.
The EC also ruled that neither group can use AIADMK name.
