In the wake of Sivasankar's arrest by the Customs, the National Investigation Agency probing terror financing behind the gold smuggling incident will also conduct an investigation into his role
Customs officials said they will visit Sivasankar at Kakkanad District Jail to record his arrest on Monday evening or Tuesday
The Crime Branch can commence an investigation only after registering an FIR and this means Swapna has to be interrogated to get details about the clip.
A Special Investigation Team of the crime branch has been entrusted to conduct the preliminary enquiry, police sources said.
The move is an effort from the part of the Pinarayi government and the LDF to sabotage the probe on the gold smuggling case, the Congress leader said.
The court will consider his bail plea on Monday. A senior Supreme Court lawyer is likely to argue for Sivasankar.
The court also said the contradictions in the ED’s reports about the proceeds of crime cannot come to Sivasankar’s rescue.
Customs is set to interrogate Sarith at Viyyur Central Jail and Swapna at Attakulangara Women's Prison on Wednesday.
The IAS officer also claimed that he was an easy political target because of the post he held.
While ED claims Sivasankar was the mastermind behind gold smuggling and money from Swapna’s locker was of the bureaucrat contradict the probe findings of the other two agencies.
The ED also submitted evidence against Sivasankar in a sealed cover. The counsel of Sivasankar, however, submitted that the ED is on a mission and their aim is the Chief Minister's Office.
However, UDF knows that the local body polls are mostly fought on local issues and hence, will face an uphill task to keep people’s focus on the controversies for over a month.
The ED requested the court to extend his custody for one more day as several new pieces of information were received after interrogating Swapna Suresh at the jail

With the inclusion of these five, there are 35 accused persons in the case registered by the NIA
