The hospital administration swung into action and switched off the power supply in the entire block averting any major damage.
The 1,500-bed facility is the largest hospital run by the Delhi government, and also the nerve centre of the city’s battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
The blaze broke out late Wednesday in the western city of Tetovo, where the hospital had been set up following a recent spike in infections in the region that left local hospitals full.

A fire broke out at the ESI hospital in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area on Thursday, Delhi Fire Service officials said.
Though the blaze was not massive and occurred in a building located away from the hospital, the patients were evacuated to safety as the smoke from the fire billowed in to the hospital block.

Smoke engulfed the third floor of the "Generation X Hotel" facility, where the patients were kept, said senior fire officer of Bhavnagar fire brigade, Bharat Kanada.
