Yogi government 2.0 is contemplating a scheme under which cowsheds will be set up across 200 assembly segments initially, followed by the rest across the state
On Thursday, the Maldhari (cattle-rearer) community of Gujarat met Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and demanded that the new Gujarat Cattle Control 2022, be scrapped
The Gujarat Cattle Control (Keeping and Moving) In Urban Areas Bill requires cattle-rearers to obtain a licence to keep such animals in cities and towns, failing which they may face imprisonment.
"When a community is ready to follow a pre-existing law, I find their representations appropriate. CM Bhupendra Patel has also given a positive response on the whole matter," he said
The bill was passed in the early hours of April 1 after a seven-hour heated debate that started around 6 pm, with the opposition Congress vehemently opposing it.
Leaders of the community have warned that if the proposed law is passed, they would disrupt milk supply across the state and boycott the Assembly elections
The party may set up large and sustainable cattle protection centres with biogas plants in each district.
It has been decided that a penalty will be imposed and notices will be served against cattle rearers, if their livestock are seen meandering on the roads.
