WATCH | Rare black tiger spotted in Odisha's Similipal National Park

In a rare sighting from Odisha's Similipal National Park, a black tiger was seen marking its territory. It was seen leaving scratch marks on a tree in the 15-second clip posted on Twitter. The clip was shared on Twitter by Indian Forest Service Officer Susanta Nanda. The video gained instant traction as Twitter users admired the rarely seen creature. Black tigers are not a separate species, but rather Bengal tigers that have a single-base mutation in a specific gene. This mutation causes the tigers' distinctive black stripes to enlarge and spread into the orange background. They are known as melanistic tigers.
